Maynooth University is launching a new Postgraduate Higher Diploma as part of its Springboard offering for 2023/24. In addition to the very sucessful Higher Diploma in Science – Software Development , we are now pleased to offer another Level 8 conversion programme under the Springboard Human Capital Initiative Pillar 1. The new Higher Diploma in Game Design is a 1 Year Full Time programme open to Level 8 Graduates* from any discipline.
Course content includes: Computer Graphics, Creative Interactive Computing, Designing for Virtual Environments, User Experience Research and Design, Music Programming , User Experience (UX), User Interface (UI) and Interaction Design, Software Sound Synthesis, Media Theory, Intro to Video Game Design, and a yearlong Diploma Project, as well as Workplace Preparation for Human-Computer Interaction. This new multi-disciplinary programme begins with an intensive three-week Java course (beginning August 28th 2023) that provides a foundation for non-computer science graduates and those returning to higher education after a number of years.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain the skills, knowledge and practical experience necessary to work in the rapidly growing Gaming Industry here in Ireland and the programme was designed with industry partners expertise and engagement. The course is part of the Springboard Human Capital Initiative, funded by the Irish Government with the support of the European Union, and is designed to increase the capacity of Higher Education to provide skills-focused programmes in areas where there is an identified skills need. Successful applicants are eligible for free or 90% subsidised fees!
This one-year full time course is open to applicants from all disciplines who currently hold a Level 8 degree. Applicants who do not meet the articulated minimum entry criteria, but who have attained significant experiential learning through their life, are encouraged to consider availing of our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) route. This pathway will require the applicant to outline learning achieved in a non-formal (short courses of learning) and informal (life and professional experience) capacity.
