• • have a critical understanding of the economic, social, and political history of Ulster from 1886 to 1969.
• • assess the causes and consequences of partition.
• • engage with the defining social, economic and cultural elements of unionist and nationalist identities during this period.
• • reflect upon the causes of division and civil unrest during this period.
• • analyse and interpret primary source material and historiography relating to this topic

• 24 contact hours or equivalent (lectures, seminars etc.) Module requires active in-person participation and/or essential practical exercises.

• Module Graded (numeric value) or Ungraded (Pass/Not Passed): Graded
• Continuous Assessment detail(s): 5,000 word essay or shorter essay combined with class assignments/tests. Essay to be submitted by Monday prior to commencement of end-of-semester examinations.

• Pass standard: 40%
• Could the result of this module be capped? Failure to meet module condition(s). There is an attendance condition attached to this module. A student must attend a minimum of 50% of the module lectures. If this condition is not met the module result is capped at a maximum of 35%.

• Penalties: No late material accepted unless medical or other compelling reasons are established in writing. The expectation is for full attendance by students.

• For autumn, the module attendance condition still applies. A student must attend a minimum of 50% of the module lectures. If this condition is not met the module result is capped at a maximum of 35%. The essay/project component only may be submitted. There will be no re-submission of other continuous assessment components. Marks received during the semester in respect of in-class tests, presentations etc., will be carried over. Essays/projects for autumn supplemental must be submitted by 1 August and may be capped.
