This module is designed to complement and integrate with the module EDF131 Language 2/Teanga 2 through student teachers’ engagement in discussion seminars and reflection activities. Through engagement with peers, in-group activities, and task-based work, student teachers will develop their own literacy and literary pedagogical knowledge and skills as well as digital literacy skills. The teaching of early reading, early writing, and speaking and listening in the junior classes as well as the importance of home-school relationships will be examined. Student teachers will be challenged to creatively develop their approaches to teaching and learning of language, literacy, and literature in ways that inclusively build on the unique identity and experiences of all pupils. Informed by Froebelian philosophy, student teachers will reflect on their own attitudes, dispositions, skills and experiences as literacy learners and their own relationships with literature in order to better understand the factors that have shaped their values, approaches, and practice in the teaching and learning of language, literacy, and literature.
