This advanced module focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of human metabolism, as well as the pathogenesis of selected metabolic disorders.
Specific sections will be concerned with: Nutrient requirements, and the bodies physiological response to their intake. The biochemical and cellular regulators of food intake and bodyweight. The diagnosis of metabolic disease and pathobiochemical aspects of major metabolic disease will be examined, including Obesity and Cancer-Associated Cachexia (CAC). The current therapeutic strategies for treating metabolic diseases including lifestyle modification, hormone analogues, immunotherapies and surgery. Discussing the impact each has on the biochemistry and physiology of food intake and the cellular regulators of metabolism.
