Funding

NIRSA provides a range of different funding opportunites from Master's scholarships to Visiting Associateships.

Information on other sources of funding can be accessed through the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, NUI Maynooth

Details of the Irish Research Council for Humanities and Social Science (IRCHSS) Government of Ireland Scholarships can be found at the website of the Research Council or by emailing, info@irchss.ie.

Postdoc Fellows Financial provision has been made to fund up to three candidates for a two-year period at a rate of €32,000 per annum, plus fees. Applicants should seek the agreement of a NIRSA Associate to act as a sponsor. Not available at present
PhD Scholarships

A number of PhD scholarships is normally available each year. There are currently valued at €16,000 per year (index-linked) plus fees (at EU rates) for three years. Applicants should have a good undergraduate degree and, preferably, a master’s qualification or comparable postgraduate work experience.

ECI Staff PhD Fellows Included in the fund to promote inter-institutional collaboration, resources are available to part-support members of the lecturing staff within the External Collaborating Institutions who wish to undertake a Ph.D. programme, under the auspices of NIRSA while registered at NUI Maynooth. Not available at present
ECI Masters Fellows The M.A. scholarships are available only to students of the External Collaborating Institutions. There are ten scholarships available at €4,000 each for the duration of the current programme. Advertising will be done within the Institutions concerned. Applications for Fellowships commencing in September 2002 will have a closing date in April 2002. Not available at present
Resident Associates Associateships will permit the recipients to "buy out" their teaching commitments for periods from three to a maximum of six months. Resources are available to allocate up to ten associateships per annum for a maximum period of six months each over a full calendar year. Not available at present
Visiting Associates Visiting Associates will be attached to NIRSA for periods of from one month up to six months. Calls will be sent to NIRSA Associates to nominate visitors. Not available at present  
Student Interns

Each year NIRSA offers a number of internships over the summer months under which students work on a supervised research project. These internships, currently valued at €5,000 over three months, are open to undergraduate, Higher Diploma and Masters students and are usually advertised in April.
