As part of the Census 2006 the CSO collected data concerning all employed persons and their journey to work. Unlike previous Travel to Work data which provided a fifteen percent sample, the 2006 POWCAR data consists of a 100 percent anonymised sample detailing worker origin, destination, mode of travel, and demographic and socio-economic characteristics of these workers. This half day conference, co-organised by the AIRO project of NIRSA and NCG and the CSO, will explore how the POWCAR data can be analyzed, present a range of different analyses that provide a fascinating insight into the travel patterns of workers throughout Ireland, and discuss what these travel patterns mean for public policy especially relating to the National Spatial Strategy, the National Development Plan, and Transport 21.
