The Official Launch of NIRSA
by Mr. Noel Dempsey T.D., Minister for the Environment and Local Government

The Official Launch was followed by a seminar with papers being presented by Professor Gerry Boyle (Director of NIRSA) and Professor Jim Walsh (Chairperson of the NIRSA Board).
The Launch programme continued with a discussion on research in third level institutions. The principal contributors to this discussion were Dr. Don Thornhill, Chairperson of the Higher Education Authority, Professor Brendan Whelan, Director of the Economic and Social Research Institute and Dr. Tom McCarthy, Dean of Research and Graduate Studies at NUIM.
The programme concluded with a reception and poster session, presented by the Departments and Institutions associated with NIRSA.
The Inaugural Meeting of the NIRSA Board took place on the afternoon of November 1.
