Guidelines on Abstracts and
Organised Sessions (Paper
and Poster Presentations)

Abstracts

Everyone who presents a paper, illustrated paper, poster or other presentation must submit an abstract of no more than 500 words that describes the presentation's purpose, methods, and conclusions. Please be sure to include keywords.

Your abstract will not be edited; you are responsible for any spelling, grammatical, and typographical errors. Use the active voice for your abstract and presentation. Transmit your research results clearly and concisely. Avoid jargon.

Submission of an abstract grants the Conference Organising Committee permission to include it in the conference abstract compilation and to disseminate it electronically.

Abstract Instructions

Please notice and adhere to the following format instructions for the body of the abstract:

     • Do not use abbreviations.
     • Do not use underlining, boldface type, italics, subscripts, or
        superscripts.
     • Do not include any codes for justification, hyphenation, line height,
line-centering, margins, spacing, fonts, page-centering, page
numbering, suppression, or tabs, in your abstract.
     • Do not use bulleted lists.
     • Do not use all caps.

Organised Sessions

Individuals, groups, and specialty groups may organise sessions at the conference. Organised sessions are a great way to bring distant colleagues together to discuss current research and to advance your field. Please have your session participants register for the conference. Please also feel free reach out to new attendees and find participants to add to an incomplete session.

Each session may list up to two organisers and one chair in the program.

Standard Papers

     • 20 minutes per paper (time includes presentation and discussion)
     • 5 presentations per session
     • Abstract submission deadline: Friday, 13 March 2009

A digital projector and Dell laptop will be available in each meeting room; participants wishing to use Apple Mac presentations must furnish their own computers. Please note that direct internet access is not available for presentations.

Poster Presentations

     • Session consists of posters exhibited for informal browsing with
opportunities for individual discussion with poster authors
     • 10 to 20 posters per session
     • Abstract submission deadline: Friday, 13 March 2009

Use the poster format for your presentation when your material can easily be communicated visually. Each presentation should make a unified, coherent statement. Materials, both textual and visual, should be of professional quality and be clearly legible from a distance of 1 metre. Please note that each display panel can hold a maximum of two A1 posters. Text should be limited to brief statements. Presentations consisting mostly of text are most appropriate as paper presentations.
