ISSP is an all-Island platform of intergrated social science research and graduate training focusing on the social, cultural and economic transformations shaping Ireland in the 21st Century.
NIRSA and NCG at NUI Maynooth are full partners in ISSP. They contribute to all three research programmes - Balanced Development, Sustainable Communities and Knowledge Society - the graduate education programme, and is also responsible for two national research infrastructures - AIRO (All-Island Research Observatory) and IQDA (Irish Qualitative Data Archive).
NIRSA undertakes fundamental, applied and comparative research on spatial processes and their effects on social and economic development in Ireland. NIRSA was established at NUI Maynooth in January 2001, funded under cycle 2 of the Programme for Third level Institutions (PRTLI)
The NCG is funded by Science Foundation Ireland, and undertakes fundamental research on Geocomputation and GIS
AIRO seeks to produce all-island, spatial datasets and specialist tools to aid their analyses, and to undertake academic and applied mapping research.
The IQDA will be a central access point for social science data in media other than machine-readable datasets and will frame the parameters and standards for archiving such data within the Irish research community.
