Includes sections on Global Issues, Women and Economic Issues, Women and Politics, etc. A critical look at food politics in the era of globalisation. This campaigning organisation targets the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in particular. Friends of the Earth is a major transnational campaign organisation on environmental issues. Conducts research to back up activist campaigns or environmental issues such as genetic engineering and toxic waste disposal. A Netherlands-based site reflecting on and strategising around global solidarity in its organisational and cultural forms. Focused on global social movements and the emergence of a global civil society. Greenpeace is the major transnational campaigning organisation on environmental questions. Current concerns include genetic engineering and international toxic waste disposal. An advocacy-oriented site with good links. ICEM (International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers Unions) One of the pioneering ITSs, the ICEM runs an innovative site full of information and links. The ICEM calls upon all the world’s workers to unite and organise. International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) The umbrella organisation of international trade unions, the ICFTU believes that international policy making would benefit from global dialogue between business and labour. Dialogue is also seen as important with NGOs and other elements of civil society. International Forum on Globalisation An alliance of activists and scholars committed to activity and education on responses to economic globalisation. International Transport Workers’ Federation One of the oldest of the ITSs (International Trade Secretariats) the ITF organises workers centrally involved in the globalising economy. Internet’s Progressive Gateway (IGC) A useful Internet gateway into a PeaceNet, EcoNet, WomensNet and Anti-RacismNet. A campaigning organisation carrying discussions, news and ‘advocacy tips’. Subtitled the International Labour Solidarity Web Site this is a well established global labour campaigning site. LabourNet operates in GreenNet, a member of the Association for Progressive Communications. Accurately subtitled ‘Where trade unionists start their day on the net’ this is a comprehensive international labour site, constantly being updated. News, forums, resources and links. This is the labour website of the US based Latin American Studies Association. It carries a quite comprehensive listing of Latin American trade union, labour research and activist groups sites. Seeks to promote informed discussion on global migration movements. Mainly an academic network. A very useful list of lists: a comprehensive and updated listing of labour movement and other websites. Try its other entries too, such as Political, Humanitarian, Women, etc. People-Centred Development Forum An international alliance of organisations committed to sustainable and inclusive development through citizen action. Issued an influential book: When Corporations Rule the World. An Australian site based on the premise that transnational problems require transnational solutions. A critical campaigning-oriented review of transnational social movements confronting globalisation. Currently campaigning around Workers’ Rights and Human Rights, highlighting the need to link trade and human rights at work in the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Other sections include Migrant Domestic Workers and Anti-Racism. Promotes a co-operation culture and a dialogue between people of the North and South of the world. Billed as a ‘site for new ideas on international solidarity’. A worldwide organisation supporting tribal peoples. Working with local indigenous organisations to promote self-determination and human rights. WWW is a UK-based organisation which supports the struggles of women workers in the global economy through information exchange and international networking. Hosted by a radical US publication, Z Magazine, this site produces contextual reports and in-depth materials on the World Trade Organisation from a critical perspective.
