The unprecedented rates of economic growth in Ireland in the 1990s was associated with very significant adjustments to the demography and socio-economic profile of the population. Locational and place specific factors have been influential in the establishment of new geographical patterns in respect of key demographic and socio-economic indicators. This workshop provides the first opportunity for a comprehensive overview of the geography of the demographic structure and socio-economic profile of the population in 2002 and of the changes that occurred in the 1990s.
Drawing on outputs from research projects supported by the Departments of Agriculture and Food, and Environment, Heritage and Local Government, as well as Teagasc an extensive range of maps based on the CSO Small Area Population Statistics have been produced for a broad range of themes. Samples of the output, including maps based on variables that were not previously measured, will be presented along with summary spatial typologies.
The workshop will be of particular interest to planning officials, elected councillors and others involved in the design and implementation of development strategies at all levels from the local to the national. It will also be of interest to representatives of government departments and state agencies as well as academics and researchers in many disciplines.
Delegates will be provided with a CD-ROM of the presentations.
