A report prepared by the Irish Climate Analysis and Research Units (ICARUS), NUI Maynooth, for the EPA suggests that significant climate change impacts are expected to occur in Ireland over the coming decades. Projections indicate that Irish temperatures will increase by between 2-3° Celsius by the end of the present century with significant changes in rainfall also being projected. The report goes on to state that a global temperature increase higher than 2° Celsius would increase the probability of ‘dangerous’ climate impacts.
Dr. John Sweeney, Senior geography lecturer at NUI Maynooth and co-author of the EPA report with Dr. Laura McElwain, spoke to RTE Radio's Morning Ireland programme in March 15th to discuss the danger expected. The interview can be listened to online via the RTE website.
