Calling all film buffs!! Maynooth Film for All, film club has recently
been established in Maynooth College. Members will have the opportunity
to view a selection of eight of the finest international films of the
last two years in all their glory on a big screen. The comfortable
surroundings of the JHL1, lecture hall in the John Hume building, North
Campus, is the venue for the club .The season kicks off on the 11th
October with the screening of Perfume followed by Volver starring
Penelope Cruz on the 15th November.
The screenings will be preceded by a brief introduction by staff from
the Media Studies Department of NUI Maynooth. These openings will give
some contextual information outlining elements of plot and style,
details of the social and political situations in which the films were
made and the careers of the various director’s, producers and actors.
The lecturers will have knowledge of the film culture of the diverse
countries from which the films come and may be drawn from other
departments (i.e. lecturers from the Spanish department will discuss the
two Spanish films to be shown before Christmas).
Membership is open to all over 18 years and costs €45.00 for a full
season, with a concessionary rate of €20.00 available to students and
OAPs. The joining fee to Maynooth Community Library is also included, if you are not
