NUIM: Department of Modern History

Mission History at Maynooth

    Long-term aims:
    • To establish a mission history resource centre at Maynooth open to researchers on a cross-denominational, all-Ireland and international basis. This centre will act, in the long term, as a centralised resource for the study of mission, a place to which mission organisations / religious groups may choose to entrust some records and reference materials.
    • To provide a forum for collaborative research into mission history and for the dissemination of research findings, linking up with networks of scholars already established and welcoming scholars from throughout Ireland, the UK and overseas.
    • To provide education in mission history on a cross-border, inter-denominational, inter-disciplinary and international basis.
    • To provide materials for education and further research which explore different understandings of mission and respect very different theological positions.
