Any registered student can take an extra language module. The only restriction is that if you are registered to study a language, you may not take the extra modules in that language.
Please note these are extra-credit modules, and are not intended to replace modules from your current course of study.
A form is sent by email to each registered student at the beginning of the semester. This should be completed in full and sent back to una.mcmahon@nuim.ie by the date indicated on the form.
Language Levels:
Please ensure you sign up for the correct level. The modules are named according to the standard laid down by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and correspond to:
A1 = Beginner
A2 = Lower intermediate
B1 = Higher intermediate
B2 = Advanced
As numbers are restricted, waiting lists are common for all courses. We would ask that you do your fellow students the courtesy of letting the Language Centre know if you are unable to take up or keep up your place, so that it can be offered to another student.
A fee of €30 will be charged for the course. This will be reimbursed provided you have attended at least 80% of the classes.
Courses in French, German, Irish and Spanish are worth 2.5 credits per semester. There is one two-hour session per week in the evening. Days and times for the year 2010-2011 are as follows:
