Operation “Valkyrie”. A military history of the 20 July 1944 uprising against Hitler

On 20 July 1944, a coup d’état to topple the Nazi regime and end the war failed. Largely, it had been planned and executed by Army officers. What can we learn about it if we look at it from a military history point of view? How was the uprising planned, why did it fail? And: how has this been memorialized in Germany ever since the Second World War ended?
