Module Objective: To show how to teach mathematics at second level

The course will cover the following topics: Comparative Mathematics Education, Teacher Knowledge, Language in Mathematics Education, the Affective Dimension in Mathematics Education.

This Mathematics Education course will be delivered through workshops. In advance of each session, students will be expected to read preset material designed to provide a focus for discussion. Some session leaders will set specific tasks to be undertaken prior to their sessions. Sessions will be organised in ways which aim to help students develop their understanding of issues through the active examination of relevant ideas, arguments and experiences. All course members will be required to contribute to and learn from the focused discussions and activities.

Students will submit a 6000-6500 word essay which will, through a detailed analysis of the available literature, compare and contrast two educational systems' perspectives and tradition with respect to one of the topics of the course.
