	This module will cover the following topics. Proof: basic notions from formal logic; counterexamples; techniques of proof such as induction and proof by contradiction; proof validation. Problem solving: analysis of mathematical behaviour; heuristics; experimentation; variation, generalisation and specialisation; exploiting symmetry. Problem classification and problem creation.

	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Use various different types of proof technique; understand the importance of proof in mathematics; use a wide variety of methods to explore unseen problems. Evaluate, modify and create problems.
