The Irish and China brings together fascinating essays on a wide range of Chinese-Irish connections, from literature and science to philosophy and food, and many things in between. With a welcome message from the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, this collection of essays also celebrates four decades of Sino-Irish diplomatic relations.

2019 Chinese Studies PhD Candidate Workshop
A Chinese Studies PhD candidate workshop was held in Maynooth University on 6 December 2019. Over 25 PhD students and supervisors from UCC, UCD, TCD, DCU, DIT and Maynooth University attended the event.

Lecture by Prof. Peter Herrmann
Professor Peter Herrmann from Berlin School of Economics and Law, Germany visited Maynooth University on 11 October 2019 and delivered a guest lecture on China and Globalisation. More than 40 students and staff members from Chinese Studies attended the lecture.

New Book Published by Faculty
Published by Routledge in 2019, A History of Shaolin offers a clear grasp of the origins and development of Chan Buddhism through an examination of Shaolin, and highlights the role of Shaolin and Shaolin kung fu in the construction of a national identity among the Chinese people in the past two centuries.
