Eligibility Criteria

Household income is assessed to determine eligibility for the SAF and funding is then targeted at those students who are in most financial need. Income thresholds applied by Maynooth University are linked to the income bands for the maintenance grant. Maynooth University has increased these thresholds by 17.5% to facilitate those students who may have just missed out on getting a grant.
Students who are experiencing difficulty with the documentation or receipting requirements for the SAF should contact the Access Office at saf@mu.ie for assistance.  In such cases, students will be asked to come in for an appointment to discuss their individual circumstances. Every effort will be made to be as flexible as possible where there are exceptional circumstances leading to significant financial hardship.
To be eligible for funding a student must be either:

  • Eligible for a grant (includes part payment of the Student Contribution Charge) OR
  • Household income must fall within one of the Maynooth University SAF income thresholds (see below)
