Rod is the Principal Technician in the Education Department. He has overall responsibility for all the audio visual (AV) equipment in the Department. In other words if you see smoke - call Rod! He can usually be found in his office, “The East Wing”, next door to the Computer Room however he can also spontaneously appear at random locations.
Rod joined the staff of the Education Department in 1989. One of his main duties at that time was the co-ordination of school video recording with the PGDE (then H.Dip.Ed) students and during the course of the year, starting in October, would visit each and every one of the PGDE (H.Dip.Ed) students in school and video record a class for later playback and analysis. More recently with the introduction of the DiViATE program, re-development of the Resource Centre, work with the M.Ed, HDSGC and others, Rod's vast technical expertise and years of experience of classroom recordings has been put to good use
Rod was on the staff of the former Carysfort College, Blackrock from 1979 to its closure in 1986. He was heavily involved in setting up and running the very comprehensive AV unit that played a major role in the college at the time. Rod was retained there until 1989 to assist in the re-distribution of equipment and resources to other institutions of education.
During the 1970's Rod studied Marine Radio, however having decided that a life at sea was not for him he moved over to Telecommunications. Following a short sojorn some study in the area of Radio, TV and Electronics followed along with some gainful employment in the maintenance of Hi-Fi / TV and training in the AV and photographic industries.
