Paula has been a teacher of Irish, English and French at post-primary level for many years before joining the staff of the Education Department. She is currently course leader for the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Management and the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership
Paula also teaches across a range of programmes including the Postgraduate Diploma in Education, Masters in Education and Masters in Education (School Leadership). She acts as tutor to students on the PGDE and PGD (EL) and has supervised research across a wide range of disciplines.
She acts as secretary to the Educational Studies of Ireland executive and the editorial board of the Irish Education Studies journal.
Paula is currently completing her PhD in the area of middle leadership and the role of the programme coordinator/ middle leadership in Irish post-primary schools. She has particular research interests in the following areas:
- Curriculum development
- Assessment for Learning
- The role of the teacher as leader
- Professional Learning Communities
- School leadership – Middle Leadership
- Philosophy of education
