Angela Rickard

Angela Rickard lectures in Educational technology on the Professional Diploma in Education and on the BScEd programme.

She is the Programme Director in the Republic of Ireland of Dissolving Boundaries - a programme funded by the Department of Education and Science involving nearly 200 primary, post-primary and special schools in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Dissolving Boundaries uses online and video-conferencing technology to facilitate cross-cultural educational links between schools in the North and South of Ireland and has been in existence since 1999: www.dissolvingboundaries.org

Angela developed and manages the Education Resource Centre. She has also developed a number of initiatives in the Education Department involving the use of digital video to promote student autonomy, reflection, collaboration and creativity.

Research interests

  • Using digital video for student teacher reflection, collaboration and creativity
  • Online collaboration among teachers and school pupils, in particular the development of cultural awareness through online collaboration and video-conferencing
  • Resource creation, use and evaluation in the context of developing student teachers’ information literacy skills
  • Web 2.0 Technologies for teaching (especially language teaching)

Dissolving Boundaries through Technology in Education Programme
Dissolving Boundaries uses technology to facilitate cross-cultural educational links between schools in the North and South of Ireland. It is jointly funded by the two Departments of Education. www.dissolvingboundaries.org

Video Ideas in Teaching and Learning Languages (VITALL):
An NDLR supported project to create video resources to support pre-service and in-service professional development for language teachers. www.vitall.ie The project is a collaboration with the Post-Primary Languages Initiative (PPLI) and the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST).
