Welcome
I am happy
to welcome you to the Education Department. The
Department has an extensive programme of teaching and research,
covering areas such as initial teacher training, school leadership,
guidance counselling and the continuing professional development of
teachers. The primary focus of the department is on second-level
education.
Schools and the teaching profession are at the interface between
the present and the future. This is a zone in which there are
increasing
pressures and ever changing demands. It is one where high levels of
stress
are commonplace and where former certainties are continuously
challenged.
In its research and teaching programme the department aims to shed
light on those pressures and to equip the professionals involved in
teaching and school leadership with the interpretative, pedagogical and
managerial skills to deal with the challenges which daily arise for
them in their
role.

Professor of Education.
